I was born in New Mexico, but my father was in the oil and gas business, so we moved a lot – first to Louisiana, then to Latin America, where we spent time in Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. When I was 13 years old, my family moved back to the United States and we settled down in North Houston, the area I still call home today. I went to Nimitz High School, then attended the University of Houston, where I got my degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management. By the time I graduated, I was already working for Pappas Restaurants, waiting tables and bartending, and I stayed with that great company for several years.
I loved the hospitality and food service industry, and spent the first 25 years of my professional career in it – from managing restaurants to specialized food sales and distribution, eventually becoming a partner and Executive Vice President for a large, well-known food distribution company.
By then I had become a husband and a father, and I soon began to realize that my hectic schedule was not allowing me to dedicate the amount of time and attention to my growing family that I would have liked. I decided I should pursue a career in a new field, where I could be my own boss, make my own decisions, and give myself the ability to focus on not only my business, but the things that matter most to me – my family and my community.
In 2018 I founded Gordon Peña Insurance.
I chose the Insurance industry because it provides me with the opportunity to do what I love best – work directly with people, and help them make decisions that provide security and value for their families, and have a positive impact on my community.
From our first location in Magnolia, we have since grown to 2 additional locations in the Greater Houston Area. Today we serve hundreds of individuals and families, more every day, and we help them get the coverage they need – and nothing they don’t – to protect their homes and all the things in life that matter most.
I still love cooking and spending time in the kitchen. I enjoy cooking a wide variety of styles, and creating unique dishes and dining experiences that make my family and our guests happy.
I live my life and run my business with a moral compass, and a value system that it is the foundation of both our home and workplace. I believe in putting faith and God first. My family is my highest earthly priority. My wonderful wife and our children and grandchildren mean the world to me. My customers and my staff are “my people”. Together, we are building a business on the foundation of taking care of each other.
